Job Description
This is a unique opportunity to join one of Australia's premier Integrated Service companies.
The Security Supervisor is responsible for delivering the highest standards of both customer and security services in a dynamic work environment.  We are currently seeking an experienced and highly motivated Security Site Supervisor for a retail shopping centre located in South West Sydney NSW. This security site operation requires a strong supervisor with drive and passion for security management, to take full responsibility and control of day-to-day security services. Managing a diverse team of security officers, you will possess strong communication and management skills to ensure the smooth running of security services at the Centre. Developing strong working relationships with Centre Management and key stakeholders including local Police to develop security strategies that meet the needs of the Centre will be paramount to your success in this role. 

The primary management duties shall include:

  • Planning, organising, directing and controlling the activities of all security guards, including shift supervisors to achieve contract requirements for safety and security
  • Preparation of rosters, security detail assignments and payroll records
  • Supervision, training ,briefing, counselling and management of staff to ensure compliance with all related policies, procedures, legal obligations and WHS regulations
  • Ensuring on-site Security Manual and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are maintained and communicated to security staff
  • Preparation of a variety of security related records to comply with internal and external reporting requirements
  • Provide information to State Office to enable maintenance of records for leave, performance evaluation, training, qualifications, disciplinary, termination and other staff issues
  • Assist State Office staff in reconciling wages, invoices and accounts
  • Manage budget outputs and the standard of services provided by security
  • Monitor and report on the performance of security against agreed business plans and contract requirments and implement improvements in a cost effective manner
  • Monitor all incident reports, ensuring accurate and effective handling and initiating of the investigation process
  • Monitor crime and incident trends, legislative changes and industry best practice and develop and implement appropriate procedures accordingly
  • Conduct audits of security management activities including random audits of guards across shifts
  • Develop, document and implement training programs to ensure all staff have attended training sessions as required by the contract
  • Participate in workplace safety arrangements
  • Report any OHS&E hazards or incidents identified in the workplace
  • Comply with work instructions & Group Integrated Management System (IMS) policies
  • Attend and / or provide Tool Box chats and IMS training sessions when required
  • Conduct induction and on-the-job training and mentoring for all new staff
  • Identify training needs for self
  • Undertake disciplinary proceedings of staff in accordance with documented policy and procedure

The primary daily duties shall include:

  •  Effective patrol of premises, including (if applicable) vehicular patrol
  •  Managing access control, including use of electronic access control equipment
  •  Manage keys and access swipe cards
  •  Operating intruder detection systems
  •  Responding to calls for assistance and respond to alarm events
  •  Supervision of, and assistance in, the use of Building Control Systems (BMS)
  •  Supervision of electronic fire life safety systems
  •  Operating and investigating fire panel notifications in accordance with site/client protocols
  •  Operating basic fire suppression equipment
  •  Assessing and responding to situations of risk
  •  Monitoring individual and crowd behaviour
  •  Monitoring and managing CCTV systems including control of release of CCTV images in accordance with site SOPs
  •  Operating moving walkways, lifts, escalators and goods lifts
  •  Operating installed security gates, barriers and bollards
  •  Protecting persons
  •  Protecting self and others using basic defensive techniques
  •  Providing First Aid
  •  Controlling persons using effective crowd control techniques
  •  Managing conflict through negotiation
  •  Implementing effective strategies for engaging with young people
  •  Implement effective strategies for engaging with intoxicated and drug affected persons
  •  Act as an Area or Chief Warden and manage people effectively during an emergency
  •  Communicating effectively with visitors, customers, tenants and site management
  •  Use communication systems including portable radios
  •  Providing advice and directions to visitors and tenants
  •  Conducting basic safety inductions to security personnel, contractors or visitors
  •  Inputting data on site/client systems, as required by site SOPs
  •  Checking reports and security entries made by security personnel
  •  Giving evidence in Court
  •  Liaising with Police, including organising routine liaison meetings with Police
  •  Liaising with Fire Brigade
  •  Liaising with other agencies (e.g. youth group/ workers)
  •  Providing regular contact with, and reports to, Site Management

Required skills:

Minimum 5 years experience in similar role of retail security management  /  computer skills to advanced level  /  current security licence  /  strong relationship building skills  and customer service focus / commitment to safety  / Security Operations – Certificate III  /  Security and Risk Management – Certificate IV.
