In October last year it became a part of the Tink's Dealership Group - a family owned and operated group of three dealerships, covering the Hunter Valley, Nambucca Valley and Now Newcastle Metro.

Through this, we aim to extend our reputation for the HIGHEST quality, repairable equipment to cover all of our customers Yard & Garden requirements.

We are also embracing the future, with a range of automated solutions including Robotic Mowers, Robotic Pool Cleaners, Lithium Ion Battery Powered Gardening Equipment, and internet connected Irrigation & Swimming Pool controllers.

About the role

A technicians position has become available in our busy workshop at Newcastle.

You will be joining six other great people in this store, so good people skills are a plus.

You will be our primary ride on equipment mechanic, working on everything from small lawn tractors through to large area turf mowers from Race Clubs & Golf Courses.

You will be working alongside two other mechanics, who currently specialise in the repair and maintenance of handheld equipment (chainsaws, brushcutters & hedge trimmers etc) & other plant (walk behind mowers, pressure cleaners, generators & air compressors) respectively. You may need to help them out with overflow work from time to time.

You will be expected to participate in industry training courses provided by leading brands such as Honda, Toro, Hustler, Husqvarna and more, which may involve travel to training facilities in the Central Coast, Sydney & Melbourne.

Benefits and perks

Standard Monday to Friday hours mean you will get to make the most of your weekend. Some Saturday work will be offered at overtime rates if our workload permits, but will not be mandatory.

We offer well above award rates to the right applicant - you'll be paid better than most auto mechanics.

Great staff discounts are available on everything we sell - just ask your Store Manager at Newcastle (Luke) to sort you out.

We have great partnerships with both SP Tools & Bahco - so you can add to your personal tool kit over time at prices you will not get anywhere else - or we can set you up with a complete set of tools to get you started if you prefer (let us know before starting if you will be bringing your own tools with you). "Special Tools" as prescribed by the various brands we we deal with will be provided for use.

The opportunity exists in the near future for the right applicant to take on an apprentice/trainee.

Skills and experience

You must have:

  • Mechanical knowledge & experience in the repair/maintenance of naturally aspirated, carburetor engines.
  • Basic knowledge of Auto Electrics.
  • Basic knowledge of Hydrostatic Transmissions
  • A drivers license (manual). Nearly all of your work will be in shop, although you will be required to do some in field service of larger machines from time to time.

Desired, but not crucial are:

  • Experience with EFI fuel management systems
  • Experience with Small Diesel Engines (Kubota, Yanmar, Hatz etc).
  • Previous OPE industry training or qualifications
  • A forklift license
  • A trade mechanics license (cert III or higher)
