The MTA’s Automotive Apprenticeships are paid jobs that give you practical skills, real-world experience and access to the latest technology to prepare you for a successful and rewarding career in the automotive industry.

The rapid change in automotive technology, including the introduction of hybrid/electric and autonomous vehicles, means that our apprentices work in high technology environments with some of the leading brands and businesses not only in South Australia - but the world.

Our apprentices also have the opportunity to work with Australian Supercar Teams at the Adelaide 500 as part of our Motorsport Repair Team to help keep the racing on track!

The urgent need for qualified technicians means there are more opportunities than ever for young people wanting to get their start in the automotive industry. As the industry’s peak body, the MTA is the key to ensuring that the hiring needs of automotive businesses are reflected in our delivery of the relevent Nationally Recognised Training Package.

Our training is delivered by people with extensive and current experience in the industry at the MTA’s dedicated Training and Employment Centre, and the MTA’s field officers meet regularly with our apprentices face to face to ensure that you have the support you need to succeed.

Junior Apprentice Light Vehicle Technician

Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology

With over a million new cars sold each year there is enormous demand for qualified light vehicle technicians to service, repair and maintain them.

Our light vehicle apprentices work in vehicle dealerships, automotive repair workshops, engineering companies and government departments with vehicle workshops to keep our vehicle fleet on the road.

Junior Apprentice Automotive Refinishing Technician

Certificate III in Automotive Refinishing Technology

The first thing people notice about a car is how it looks. Refinishing technicians are vital to ensuring that a vehicle makes the right first impression whether it’s on the street or the racetrack.

Our automotive refinishing apprentices work in collision repair and custom refinishing businesses, with the latest equipment, to give vehicle’s that something extra.

Junior Apprentice Body Repair Technician

If a vehicle is involved in collision, you want to know that it has been repaired to the very highest standard possible. Body Repair Technicians make sure that vehicles involved in collisions receive high quality body repairs to enable customers to get on the road again.

Our body repair technicians work with and learn from the best collision repairers in the business in modern efficient workshops equipped with the latest technology and working with a range of materials including metal, plastic, and fibreglass.

  • Successful completion of MTA's pre-selection test which can be conducted at our Training and Employment Centre or Online
