Railroad Transport Group is a South Australian privately owned transport Company. The group is based in Adelaide with depots in Melbourne and Perth. Beginning in 1957 as a family owned business in local and interstate haulage operations, the business has flourished and now provides transport services to all major Australian cities.

Recently the Company has been developing its mechanical and fabrication departments, known as the Workshop and is now able to supply its services to a number of external clients.  It offers servicing and repairs of trucks, trailers and other types of heavy equipment by its team of experienced mechanics, as well as fabricating all types of equipment by or team of qualified boilermakers and welders. 

Railroad are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the team in South Australia.  This role is responsible for the coordination of all aspects of the workshop and to facilitate continuous improvement in processes and business opportunities.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Undertake workshop administration activities, including ensuring open jobs are followed up and actioned in a prompt manner
  • Implement strategies to grow the workshop
  • Management of personnel ensuing labour and resources are assigned efficiently
  • Bring support, organisation and leadership to the team
  • Responsible for financial performance of the workshop
  • Achieve the service/repair revenue budget by maintaining existing and increasing service/repair agreements, managing and communicating technicians’ charge out hours and productivity and achieving overall sales budget
  • Regularly report to National Operations Manager and Directors on sales revenue/gross profit aspects of the workshop
  • Responsible for the preparation and submission of quotations for the service and repair of equipment
  • Identify training needs of employees and equipment needs

Role Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years prior experience in a similar role
  • Proven ability to be able to effectively market service and grow revenue levels
  • Diesel Mechanic trade qualifications are advantageous but not a requirement
  • Basic to Intermediate level in Microsoft Word, Excel and Internet Explorer
  • WHS knowledge required

To be successful in this role you will also need to be able to demonstrate a high level of organisational, communication and leadership skills.
