About the business

Custom Trolleys Australia

Australia's leading manufacturer of quality materials handling equipment - hand trucks, trolleys, lifters and more for mining, industrial, warehousing, hospitality, healthcare and beyond. Our speciality is custom solutions to difficult handling issues, which sees us working with the likes of Woolworths, JB Hi-Fi, Origin Energy, Armaguard, Toll, amongst many others. We focus on innovation, strength, reliability and pride in all we do. Our impact on the market is large, though our team is small - at CTA your skills and efforts will be highly valued and essential to our continuing growth and success...you're much more than just a number to us!

About the role

We seek a skilled and experienced fabricator to join our close knit team. We're like a family here, and being a small business we all pitch in to do whatever needs to be done. If you're successful, your job with CTA will be:

Light steel fabrication using MIG

Building standard lines in jigs or freehand

Engaging in custom projects where your input is heard and valued

Aluminium welding ability is a bonus, but we only do this rarely so not essential

Sheetmetal work

Use of guillotine, pan brake, tube bender (we can train you), drop saw, MIG welder, etc

Reading of workshop and CAD drawn plans

Receiving steel deliveries

Workshop housekeeping

The work is mostly light and clean (for this kind of work). This position would best suit a confident, trade qualified welder (as some of our crane-liftable products must be welded by a TQ fabricator) with at least a few years experience after trade papers. Alternatively we can consider a competent apprentice looking to complete their trade qualification.

The role is full-time 38 hours per week, hours are 7am-3:30pm Mon-Thurs, 7am - 1:30pm Friday.

Benefits and perks

We're a close knit, welcoming and friendly team who love to work with like-minded people. We're all dedicated to the success of the business and most of us are long term team members. We look after our own and enjoy having a chat after work. We are situated in Browns Plains, close to Grand Plaza and the Busway. We are a growing business and always look internally to advance our people before going out in search of others. We also run a laser cutting and sheetmetal folding business in Underwood, and have cross-promoted employees who have expressed interest.

Your starting pay rate (if trade qualified) is either $28/hr permanent (with usual entitlements) or $35/hr casual, depending on your preference (plus super). Apprentice pay rate depending on experience.

Skills and experience

We need someone who is trade qualified, with good skills and experience in steel fabrication. We will also consider a 2nd/3rd/4th yr apprentice looking to complete their trade papers, as we have two qualified boilermakers and a qualified sheetmetal worker on site. Our work is mostly light gauge (1.6mm wall), and can be very varied. You might be asked to build a run of six jigged gas cylinder trolleys, followed by a couple of mesh cage trolleys, followed by a sheetmetal cabinet or multi shelf trolley, followed by a CAD-drawn custom lifter that has previously never existed. What we're mainly looking for is:

Confident in light fabrication

Happy to help where required

Solutions-focused

Motivated and energetic

Friendly and easygoing

We hope to find someone to fit with our current culture - we're happy to come to work, we like what we do, and we're proud of our Australian-made product.
