We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Gas Fitter to join our Networks Operations team in Thomastown or Somerville, VIC on a full time 12-month Fixed Term basis.

Reporting to the Program Coordinator – Field Operations, you will play a key role in providing the safe and timely delivery of field activities in relation to domestic and small commercial/industrial meter fixes, meter disconnection and reconnections, regulator replacements and pressure upgrades.

On a day-to-day basis, your responsibilities will include:

  • Work as part of an efficient team under the general direction of an Area Supervisor.
  • Carrying out all work associated with meter changes and the commissioning of gas supply to the customer.
  • Testing and setting meter instruments, fitting lines etc.
  • Completion of refix relights as a result of meter change activities.
  • Completion of appropriate paperwork associated with all aspects of the position including time sheets, materials used, work order failure codes, incident reports etc.
  • Maintain constant awareness of personal safety and that of colleagues and the public.
  • Working in an outdoors environment exposed to a wide range of conditions.

To excel in this position you will have the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:

  • Ability to meet physical requirements as per pre-employment medical assessment due to physical demands of the role.
  • Proven experience from a trade field.
  • Good written and verbal communication and the ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps and plans, technical drawings and manufacturers specifications.
  • Confident use of hand tools and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment, build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong computer use and workplace communication systems.
  • Able to work independently at times in remote locations
  • Able to interact with customers on a daily basis
