Ai Group Apprentice and Trainee Centre and our host employer, Simon’s Boilers in Alexandria, are seeking an apprentice Fitter/Welder for a Certificate III in Engineering (Mechanical) apprenticeship.

Simons Boilers has over 80 years of experience in the field of thermal engineering design, manufacturing and supplying a wide range of steam and hot water boilers Australia wide. They deliver a full range of services, from initial system design to installation, commissioning, ongoing technical support and maintenance providing our clients with long term and added value solutions. At the conclusion of the apprenticeship, Simon’s Boilers will ideally be looking for you to stay and grow with the company, working in the factory or on the road as a service technician.

Ai Group Apprentice and Trainee Centre is a Group Training Organisation which employs apprentices and trainees and places them with Host Organisations to learn the skills of their trade.  We provide support for all our apprentices and trainees through our mentoring program. We will assist you to successfully complete your work and training commitments and gain your qualification.

Skills and training will include:
> Assembling gas and electric boilers. The successful candidate will receive comprehensive training and hands-on skills of building a range of steam boilers from start to finish. 
> Insulating boilers
> Welding - copper brazing, welding of steel, arc welding 
> Fault finding/ fixing boilers that are brought into factory for repair
> Site work with the service technicians, learning to service and commission the boilers. 

A Certificate III Engineering Mechanical Apprenticeship will involve:
> Examine and evaluate drawings and specification for requirements.
> Operate and adjust metalworking machines and create parts or tools by turning, boring, milling, shaping, slotting, grinding or drilling metal stock or components.
> Fit and assemble metal parts, tools or sub-assemblies (including brazing or welding parts, repair or replace faulty parts).
> Cut, thread, bend and install hydraulic and pneumatic pipes and lines.
> Set up and/or operate hand and machine tools, welding equipment or Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines.
> Ensure accuracy and quality of finished parts, tools or sub-assemblies.

This apprenticeship is a Skills Shortage Trade.
