About the role

Are you ready for a challenge?  Are you looking to work for one of Australia’s historical brands? The Boral Asphalt Asset Management team is embarking on an exciting journey and is seeking a responsible and organised individual to join our team as an Apprentice Diesel Fitter in West Burleigh.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will be interested in undertaking a career in asphalt plant maintenance and in completing a diesel mechanic/fitter apprenticeship under the guidance of industry specialists.

 

Key duties

  • Carry out maintenance and repairs to mobile and static road surfacing plant in a civil contracting environment, ensuring all equipment is operational and safe for use,
  • Carrying out field maintenance in a fully equipped mobile service vehicle,
  • Promote and comply with safe work procedures and practices,
  • Liaise with Contracting Supervisors on any issues that need attention, being safety or production,
  • Work closely with the Asset Management team in the development of plant reliability programmes,
  • Ensuring Boral policies, standards, safety and operational business plans are followed at all times,
  • Carry out plant inspection checklists,
  • Maintain a neat and tidy workshop and work area,
  • Participate in site safety meetings,
  • Initiate and communicate improvement ideas that improve efficiency, reduce waste and costs, and
  • Lead and maintain a quality focus with product, environment and work ethic.

 

Must haves

  • No experience in plant maintenance required,
  • On the job experience, trade apprenticeship and career path options will be available,
  • A good attitude and behaviour essential,
  • Ability to work in teams,
  • Ability to maintain an energetic, self-motivated and enthusiastic work ethic,
  • Strong safety and environmental awareness,
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and
  • Quality orientation with a passion for operational excellence, safety and self-improvement.

 

Desirable

  • Drivers licence and own transport,
  • Pre vocational training,
  • School based training, and
  • Or other relevant training.
