About the Position

The following positions are available:

1 x Security Advisor - permanent, full-time.

1 x Security Advisor - fixed-term, full-time (ending 30 June 2019).

Located within our Corporate Safety and Risk Branch you will provide high quality, specialist advice and assistance across the range of corporate security functions to ensure the Council of the City of Gold Coast (City) provides a safe and secure work environment and effectively manages risk. You will work pro-actively as a valued member of the Corporate Security Team and contribute to security risk management governance by providing leadership and professional expertise across the City. As Security Advisor you will play a key role in corporate security governance including procedural reviews, security incident management, data analysis and reporting, audits, inspections, development and implementation of Corporate Security Policies and associated standards and procedures which are aligned with the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF). You will also be involved in the development and delivery of organisational-wide initiatives through the formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of security programs addressing emerging security risks.

Key Deliverables of the position:

  • Work proactively within the Corporate Security Team and across the City to provide for ongoing development, implementation and continuous improvement in security risk management systems and initiatives including policies, procedures, standards, training and awareness
  • Engage, consult and effectively communicate with business units and key personnel to effectively embed security risk management processes, increase awareness and enhance the security culture across the City
  • Provide professional security advice including security design specifications, active armed offender and counter-terrorism strategies
  • Liaise with law enforcement agencies including Queensland Police
  • Review security incidents, undertake security incident investigations and provide key mitigation strategies
  • Undertake security inspections, audits and incident data analysis and engage risk owners to reduce security risks
  • Provide administration and support associated with corporate security risk management activities

About You

To be successful in this position you will hold formal qualifications in Security Risk Management or have the equivalent knowledge, and have demonstrated experience in corporate security management practices/principles.  You will be a team player and pride yourself on your high level stakeholder engagement skills, working collaboratively with the business to deliver and improve business and service outcomes.  You have well developed organisational, report and policy writing skills with excellent communication and presentation skills.  You have sound problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolutions skills.
