About the business and the role

Agtronics Goondiwindi are dealers and manufacturers of specialist agricultural electronics, precision farming and telemetry equipment. We pride ourselves on excellent customer service and providing our customers with the latest high performance equipment suited to their needs.

We require 2 Electronic Instrument Trades Workers/Technicians for immediate start. The positions are responsible for the installation, modification, maintenance and repair of complex electronic equipment, components, instruments and telemetry control systems which involve a combination of electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic principles.

Secondary responsibilities include the installation of electronic instrument communication accessories including phone kits, UHF radios, antennas, spot lights and Cel-Fi repeater boosters, electronic telemetry communication systems, assisted & automated steering & tractor guidance systems, installation of WEEDit Spot-On Spraying Systems including use of tools and equipment, fitting out, testing and calibration electronics both in the workshop and assisting in the field.

Job tasks and responsibilities

  1. Installing electronic instruments and control systems;
  2. Installation of base station towers for use with assisted & automated steering & tractor guidance systems;
  3. Examining and testing equipment, instruments and control systems to diagnose faults;
  4. Adjusting, repairing, and replacing worn and defective parts and wiring, and maintaining equipment and instruments;
  5. Reassembling, test operating and adjusting equipment, instruments and telemetry control systems;
  6. Advising customer/client users of correct operating procedures to prevent malfunctions and ensure proper performance of electronic instrument and control systems;
  7. Applying knowledge of electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic principles in commissioning and maintaining control and instrument systems;
  8. Read and interpret electronic instrument and control system technical and schematic diagrams, plans and blueprints;
  9. Troubleshooting, diagnosing and solving problems in DC circuits;
  10. Troubleshooting digital sub-systems;
  11. Using electronic engineering applications software on personal computers and instruments and control systems;
  12. Solving fundamental electronic communication system problems and issues;
  13. Setting up and configuring basic local area networks (WLAN and LAN).
  14. Workplace health and safety (WHS), such as correct manual handling techniques, identifying safety hazards on work site;
  15. Prevention strategies, wearing correct personal protective equipment (PPE), etc;
  16. Reducing harm to the environment; and
  17. Any other relevant electronic instrument and control systems tasks and duties as directed by manager within the skill set, expertise and ability of the employee.

Skills and experience

  • High level experienced electronics instrument technician with formal trade apprenticeship or technical trade college qualification;
  • Minimum 5 years professional employment experience as electronic instrument technician/electronic equipment technician;
  • Suitable past industry employment experience includes electronic instrument installation and repairs, electronics/electronic instruments manufacturing, motor vehicle or mining;
  • High level of expertise and experience with electronic board level and electronic component repairs both with and without the aid of diagrams or schematics;
  • High level of installation experience of electronics on GPS equipment, vehicles (i.e. cars/trucks) and/or agricultural plant/equipment;
  • Must have radio communications experience;
  • Must have data communications experience i.e. working with internet, Ethernet, WLAN and LAN;
  • Applicant must be able to work well unsupervised on a daily basis;
  • Be a quick learner and be interested in learning new skills and applying them where required.
