The School

Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School has over 2700 students from Kindergarten to Year 12 and over 400 staff across campuses in Moonee Ponds, Essendon, Keilor East. The school has sportsgrounds at Keilor Park and a camp at Eildon.

The Role

We seek expressions of interest from experienced Gardeners to join our hard working and dedicated team in maintaining high quality, well-presented grounds. Based at the Keilor East campus, you will work across other campuses as required.

You will:

  • Maintain a high quality of presentation of the gardens, lawn areas, sportsgrounds and/or facilities
  • Prepare and plant suitable plants for the school environment
  • Perform routine maintenance of gardens, turf, synthetic grass and other play surfaces, including mowing, cutting and trimming plants, weeding, removing cuttings, rake leaves, fertilising, pest control, maintaining playground soft fall materials, etc.
  • Water plants and assist with the sound operation of the irrigation systems
  • Operate, adjust and maintain gardening and turf equipment and machinery in excellent working order, reporting any faults to the Grounds Manager
  • Perform basic outdoor maintenance
  • Provide a safe and clean environment, including cleaning leaf materials from gutters/drains and emptying bins as required
  • Perform general labour tasks as required, including moving furniture and equipment as required
  • Drive the school bus to transport students occasionally, as required.

Some weekend and out-of-hours work will be required.

The Person

You will be a self-starter who can work independently and in a team environment. In addition to your relevant qualifications in gardening, horticulture or turf management and several years' experience, you will take pride in your work and have a passion for providing a high quality and timely gardening service.

PEGS is committed to child safety and applicants must be willing to provide a valid Working With Children Check. You must also hold a current driver's license, medium rigid truck license (or willingness to be trained for one) and be eligible to work in Australia.
