About The Role: 
 
Reporting into the Projects and Engineering Manager for Vic/Tas, the Project Engineer for Resource Recovery will manage and deliver civil engineering projects for the Resource Recovery business throughout Victoria. 
 
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Engineer who enjoys working independently while still embracing an open and collaborative team culture. Although this is a small team you will still be encouraged and have the opportunity to network and idea share with the wider Veolia Engineering community as we strive to develop innovative solutions across sustainability and Resource Management. 
 
Responsibilities will include: 

 

  • Deliver a range of landfilling and materials recovery facility capital project works to the agreed scope, quality, budget and time frame. Administer contracts. Manage progress to ensure that project milestones and key performance indicators are met. Accurately report forecast against plan of the projects’ risks, schedule, quality and cost and risk as required.
  • Structure and deliver project activities such that they meet all EPA, EPA compliance Auditor, Council, QA consultants and external stakeholder conditions in a timely manner to satisfy operational delivery requirements.
  • Identify and assess risks associated with the project interfacing into existing operations and implement plans to manage those risks. Undertake risk assessment and hazard identification to support engineering initiatives. 
  • Prepare and provide assurance of Quality Management Plans. 
  • Prepare and oversee construction site safety management plans
  • Act on behalf of Veolia in discussions with Regulators, Clients, contractors, site personnel and suppliers. Coordinate internal and external resources associated with the delivery of projects. Manage external contractors in accordance with Veolia’s requirements

Qualifications and experience:

Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Civil).

  • 5 to 8 years’ experience in project engineering and management expertise in civil design and construction of landfills (or similar), materials recovery or other similar waste management facilities.
  • Driver’s licence
  • Willingness to travel (intra-state 50%)
  • Strong leadership, verbal and written communication skills
  •  Well-developed knowledge and understanding of OHS legislation and regulations specific to design and construction of landfills and resource recovery facilities.
  • Practical experience in Quality, Environmental and OH&S Management systems, including use of third party QA and external auditing and certification resources
  • Experience using MS project or similar 
  • Ability to assess situations and determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions that are in the best interests of Veolia and our customers.
  • Strong analytical skills, high attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines consistently.
  • Effective teamwork and interpersonal skills including ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with regulators, auditors, clients and colleagues.
