The Diggers Club is Australia’s largest gardening club with a substantial mail order business, four retail stores, two gardens and historic properties.  This growing business requires an experienced gardener to join its team at The Garden of St Erth (Blackwood).  We offer a permanent full time role and the chance to grow your experience in all aspects of the gardening trade.  The role offers a candidate with initiative and a passion for gardening work the opportunity to work in a successful team and learn from leading professionals in their field.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in all aspects of ornamental gardening including annual & perennials, trees & shrubs, fruit and vegetables and be very familiar with organic gardening principles. A gardening or horticultural qualification is essential.  The person we are seeking must be able to demonstrate excellent communication and relationship building skills, excellent organisational skills and confident in staff management when required.  Reporting to the Head Gardener, you will have demonstrated experience with staff mentoring/management, development and succession planning and training.

Your responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Making a constructive contribution to and execute the short term and long term garden goals and overall garden plan
• Work to achieve the goals set out in the garden plan and to implement the garden policies as directed
• Regular reporting on the garden progress, update on the roll-out of the garden plan 
• Work with the Head Gardener in planning the annual festivals, garden tour groups and festivals; including being available to work at the festivals and run workshops
• Building strong relationships with internal staff and other departments at Diggers.
