The Role

An exciting opportunity exists within EGroup Security for a Retail Security Controller and Security Rover at one of our premium assets in the Sydney CBD. The Security Controller Rover is responsible for the efficient operation of Security systems including review of CCTV, access control management, emergency management, tenant and client liaison and assigning tasks to other staff members as required. Customer service is paramount for this role.   

The Retail Security Controller and Security Rover will receive tenant liaison calls at the control desk and take appropriate action as per the standing operating procedures.  This person will have awareness of the location of all security staff at all times and full knowledge of the Emergency Planning and Evacuation Procedures for the Property.  This role will be responsible for the maintenance of control desk records such as reports, After Hours Access Logs, Master Keys and Security Pass Registers, Access Key Registers, Building Incident Log Books etc.

The Security Controller, Rover will report emergency conditions or major plant alarms or failures to Building Management, initiate contact and liaise with contractors as required.

Reporting to the Security Manager, the role will contain:

  • Responsibility for communicating to with the team on a range of operational aspects as they occur on site.
  • Ability to supervise a team of officers and delegate tasks accordingly
  •  De-briefing Between shifts (System for communicating between shifts is required so personnel are kept fully aware of all significant issues. An allowance of 15 minutes overlap is to occur between each shift to ensure current status of the building and systems has been identified and understood)
  • Ability to effectively communicate any issues that occur on site and coordinate with other team members
  • The knowledge of and the use of all control desk systems and associated equipment.
  • The knowledge of the building and associated systems, including a full knowledge of Security Standing Orders and the House Rules for the Property.
  • Receiving tenant liaison calls at the control desk, and taking appropriate action.
  • The proper course of action in emergencies and procedures, including a full knowledge of the Emergency Planning and Evacuations Procedures Manual for the Property.
  • Maintaining correct relationships with tenants, staff and the general public.
  • Awareness of location of security staff at all times.
  • Maintaining control desk records such as:- Shift Log Book, After Hours Access Log, Master Key and Security Pass register, access key register, Building Incident Log Book etc.
  • Assistance in lock-up or un-lock as required when feasible.
  • Locating and retrieving keys and passes not returned on time.
  • Keeping the control room / security desk area in a neat and tidy condition and ensuring that no security officer is found eating, smoking or drinking in the area.
  • Reporting emergency conditions or major plant alarms or failures to Management.
  • Control access to and use of the Property Building Maintenance Units (BMUs), ensuring that all personnel gaining access have been trained and authorised to access the units.
  • Other duties as reasonably directed by Management

Work Health and Safety

  • Continuously adopt and apply all safety requirements and safe working practices
  • Take all steps within your control to maintain your own health and safety and the health and safety of others in the workplace, and to contribute to improving WH&S
  • Comply with all safe working procedures and WH&S legislation (policies/procedures/processes that may be developed by Management 
  • Participate in risk assessment and workplace inspections
  • Assist in identifying WH&S needs
  • Report all hazards, incidents and accidents
  • Complete WH&S documents accurately (i.e. Accident/incident Reports)
  • Pointing out Work Health and Safety issues to contractors and cleaners for them to be rectified and/or dealt with immediately

Essential criteria: A minimum of twenty-four (24) months demonstrated experience in a Commercial asset. 

  • Previous experience in working within a large commercial asset
  • Knowledge of CCTV, Fire Control Panel and Access Control systems
  • A comprehensive understanding of WH&S  and the ability to identify & manage risks
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, analyse and resolve operational issues
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Prior experience in performing documented security reports
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate level with Microsoft suite of products including outlook, word and excel
  • Ability to be able to communicate with multiple stakeholders across various backgrounds 

Compulsory requirements:

  • Current NSW 1A Security Licence
  • Senior First Aid Certificate
  • Ability to work a rotating roster days, nights, weekends and Public Holidays
