Your role
Imagine going to work on a high-tech warship, travelling the world and experiencing new countries and cultures.
As a Boatswain's Mate in the Navy you'll form part of the backbone of your ship, acquiring the specialist knowledge to handle essential seamanship tasks such as:
- anchor work
- rope work
- small boat handling and operations
- ships husbandry
- berthing
- towing
- helming, and
- re-fuelling at sea.
In this highly varied role it's likely you'll become involved in boarding operations and force protection, and you may be selected to specialise in fast roping from Navy helicopters in support of boarding ships.
You will be trained in the use of close range weapons including pistols, rifles, machine guns and remotely-fired gun systems; and may also be nominated to attend a demolition charge preparation course.

Entry Requirements
- At least 17 years of age
- Australian Citizen
- Year 10 completion with passes in English and Mathematics
If you do not have the required passes you may be eligible to sit an Alternative Education Equivalency assessment. Medical and fitness guidelines also apply.
