About the Role

In order to expand and capitalise on data opportunities within ERM Power, we’re looking for a creative and experienced Senior Data Engineer who can also operationalise advanced analytics and machine learning solutions by designing, building, and maintaining robust data pipelines and data products in scalable cloud environments. We're early in our data journey which means you'll have the opportunity to architect, develop and automate analytics and machine learning solutions using cutting edge technologies.

While the industrialisation of our environment is critical, a key focus of this role will also be working as a pure data scientist to contribute to the development and improvement of our energy management solutions by applying advanced statistical and machine learning techniques, and data visualisation techniques, working alongside the product management, software engineering, and the marketing teams.

The Senior Data Engineer will also work with the advisory team to analyse and visualise customer data and to develop insights and recommendations to help customers manage energy use and reduce energy costs.
  
Responsibilities
  • Work as part of a team of data scientists, specialists and software engineers to streamline and automate data and analytical processes
  • Proactively develop and improve the data science at the heart of our insights and solutions
  • Develop a strong understanding of strategic business initiatives and apply your expertise in Data Engineering for translating new requirements into scalable and sustainable analytical solutions
  • Guide and direct other data scientists and engineers on scalable cloud architectures
  • Provide subject matter expertise with Big Data technologies to constantly challenge and improve the solutions by adding new capabilities, enhancing performance or improving robustness and solution availability.
  • Develop and use data mining and statistical skills - including existing and new innovative methodologies in descriptive profiling statistics, segmentation, non-supervised methods, predictive models, etc. in order to most effectively answer our business questions
  • Iteratively build and prototype dashboards to provide insights at scale
  • Ensure flawless execution and timely delivery of all work
  • Interpret insights and derive strategic and operational recommendations
  • Use Tableau, PowerBI and PowerPoint, or other forms of visual storytelling, to summarise findings; propose innovative data presentation and visualisation options
We'd love to hear from you if:

You are a passionate self-motivated individual who enjoys working in a high performing culture, ideally with prior experience in a similar role and knowledge of the electricity or similar industries along with the following:
  • Experience architecting and supporting large scale, distributed or complex near-real time analytics solutions using technology stacks such as AWS or Azure. You are comfortable being responsible for the continuous deployment, operation, and monitoring of your services and their infrastructure and have built distributed systems, backend APIs, or micro-services
  • Hands-on, proficient experience with statistical programming in Python, R or other statistical scripting language and business intelligence and visualisation tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI);
  • Knowledge of ‘big data’ analytics and machine learning platforms along with a strong technical proficiency in SQL and NoSQL
  • Deep knowledge of statistical and predictive modelling concepts, machine-learning approaches, clustering and classification techniques, and optimization algorithms.
  • Strong experience in Big Data projects working alongside data scientists
  • Practical experience applying data science and machine learning techniques to the development of new digital products.
  • Ability to present and communicate complex technical issues to a variety of audiences including senior management
  • Developed business acumen along with a curiosity of the bigger picture, and how your work contributes to it
  • Masters Degree or Ph.D. in computer science, applied statistics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, econometrics or a related quantitative discipline
