Our Federal Government client is seeking an APS6 Senior Project Officer for a six month contract with the possibility of an extension.
  
The APS6 Senior Project Officer will work primarily on revision of the water quality guidelines including the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and the Guidelines for Managing Risks in Recreational Water.

The position is initially for six months and will report to an Assistant Director. Towards the end of this time, the business will review options to extend the position.

Job Specific Duties:

Under the supervision of an Assistant Director, the successful applicant will:
  • assist with complex projects aimed at developing evidence-based information products in alignment with the the Corporate Plan
  • provide Secretariat support  to the business’ Water Quality Advisory Committee and other committees as required
  • write high-quality agenda papers, briefs, ministerial correspondence, reports and varied other correspondence
  • analyse scientific information and use this to prepare relevant reports and papers
  • manage contractor and procurement activities
  • manage telephone and public email  enquiries
  • plan and manage project milestones to ensure deliverables and time frames are met
  • maintain productive working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders including the funders of projects and committee members, and
  • contribute to other section activities as required
The successful applicant will:  
  • have experience in producing high-quality agenda papers, briefs, ministerial correspondence, reports and varied other correspondence.
  • have experience in providing secretariat support to advisory committees
  • have demonstrated ability to retrieve and analyse scientific information and use this to prepare relevant reports and papers
  • have experience in project/contract management
  • be highly organised and have the ability to produce quality work
  • be able to build and maintain productive working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • have clear and concise oral and written communication skills, and
  • have the ability to work with limited direction and across different projects
  
Highly desirable
  • Tertiary qualifications in a biological science (e.g toxicology, biochemistry, microbiology) or chemistry and/or environmental health science.
  • An understanding of the methodologies to review scientific literature.
