About the role

Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, you will be responsible for providing the highest quality service to clients. Complete work in a timely manner as directed by your supervisor, this includes but is not limited to collection of samples, sample preparation, laboratory and instrumentation duties. The Townsville based role requires the successful applicant to work full time day shift (0800 – 1600hrs Mon – Fri). Shift work or week end work may be available to meet production demands.

As part of your role, you will be willing to, as required, work as a Laboratory Technician at Intertek’s regional minesite operations to cover for periods of staff leave or increased samples volumes.  Site work will be on a 12 hour shift basis (0600-1800) for periods of 7 consecutive days.

The role entails a three month full time rolling contract. Contract renewal would depend on meeting training and production targets within specified timeframes.  

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safety procedures are followed in accordance with Site, State and local guidelines
  • Provide quality services to our client in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Perform analysis accurately and within turnaround times required
  • Perform maintenance and operational functions on the equipment as required
  • Follow all documented procedures to ensure maintenance of quality accreditation
  • Conduct general cleaning and maintenance of the sample station and sampling points
  • QA/QC

 

Qualifications / Experience / Skills:

  • Previous laboratory experience is essential
  • Sample preparation skills are a must.
  • Previous experience in operating AAS and mineral digestion methods is also essential.
  • Experience in sampling is highly regarded
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work within a small team to achieve key objectives
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Ability to develop and implement appropriate procedures
  • Laboratory certification highly regarded
  • Computer literacy skills are required
