A rewarding opportunity currently exists for a Laboratory Technician to join our team. This position preferably will be residential and located at Karumba in the Shire of Carpentaria, Queensland.  A continous day shift roster on a FIFO basis for non-local applicants shall be considered.  Furnished accommodation shall be provided for non-local applicants selecting the residential option.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Analysis of samples to agreed standards in a safe, timely manner.
  • Record, store and report all analytical results and data.
  • Ensuring all equipment is properly calibrated and equipment records up to date.
  • Ensure consumable stocks are available and fit or purpose.
  • Follows procedures as outlined in manuals and by senior staff.

Key Accountabilities shall include:

  • Sample collection/receival, data entry, management, storage and disposal of all metallurgical, wastewater and environmental samples as per company requirements.
  • Develop and coordinate the delivery of the Laboratory results in a timely, safe and effective manner.
  • Preparation and analysis of samples using various measuring and assay apparatus.
  • Preparation and analysis of concentrates to determine moisture content, transportable moisture limits and other characteristics required to ensure concentrates are safely stowed and transported in a marine transport environment.
  • Preparation and analysis of in process wastewater samples to monitor the biological process and contamination levels.
  • Data collection, review and monitor reporting of results including all required QA/QC procedures.
  • Calibration, maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment and laboratory areas.
  • Accountable for Quality Assurance / Quality control (QA/QC) of sample results before submission to the Laboratory Superintendent/Co-ordinator.
  • Maintain and foster an exceptional work ethic; maintain a safe, contaminate-free work environment Safe and environmental compliant management of analytical reagents, chemicals and laboratory wastes.
  • Taking the initiative to continually improve your work, the overall business and promote the goals of the organisation.
  • Working effectively and collaboratively with immediate colleagues and others in cross-functional relationships.
  • Comply with all regulations and requirements as laid out in Laboratory manuals.
  • Ensure that the lab operates in a manner which maintains and enhances New Century Resources’ reputation with all stakeholders; and
  • Any other reasonable tasks as requested by Supervisors.

Applicants shall possess the following technical, interpersonal skills, knowledge and qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working within the wastewater treatment industry.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in metallurgical operations/support laboratory environment.
  • A minimum of 1 years’ remote site experience.
  • Minimum of Certificate IV within a relevant discipline.
  • Diploma in Applied Science, or Degree highly desirable.
  • Previous NATA signatory highly valued.
  • Metallurgical laboratory operations knowledge.
  • Wastewater chemistry knowledge.
  • Calibration, maintenance, equipment cleaning and continuous improvement.
  • Familiar with NATA requirements and applicable Australian Standards and ISO17025.
  • Strong computer applications skills in Word and Excel.
  • Lims experiences highly valued.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to set and manage priorities as directed by supervisor.
  • Strong and effective time management planning ability.
  • Current First Aid / CPR Certificate.
  • Current C Class Driver licence.
