A leading Australian Media & Advertising company requires a Data Scientist
My client is a longstanding, high profile media company, growing from within, and adding to from without (on the acquisition trail in a big way).
It is an exciting period of growth and transformation, with a number of new roles being added to the team.   
This is a key role, reporting to the newly appointed Chief Innovation Officer and working closely with the Head of IT, Director of Marketing and the Data & Insights team.

The role of Data Scientist is the first of its kind for my client.
The Data Scientist plays a pivotal role in transforming large and complex data sets into audience insights and strategic campaign recommendations for clients.
The purpose is to add value to our advertisers by unlocking valuable audience and advertiser category information.The role requires capability at the level where you can create entirely new sets of code and understand how to step-through the existing code already written.

The type of candidate we are searching for has:
 
  • Strong working knowledge of AWS Redshift, Postgres, R and QGIS, Python
  • Previous experience with data visualisation tools (Tableau, Power BI)
  • Highly capable of working with large and complex data sets
  • Demonstrable capability creating entirely new sets of code and understanding how to step through existing code already written
  • Business intelligence savvy wit experience in data warehousing, data mining and client segmentation
  • A proven track record of accomplishment for leveraging technology to solve business problems providing consumer insights
  • Highly self-motivated and able to work both autonomously and collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Bring keenness & curiosity to improve our data capability and identify new data opportunities
  • Well-rounded interpersonal and communication skills, able to effectively communicate and articulate complex information to a variety of audiences

Responsibilities of the role:
We’re looking for a candidate who can work independently and also collaboratively as part of a team, with the drive and initiative to identify new and inspiring uses for multiple big data sets. 
 
Business intelligence
  • Apply business intelligence and advanced analytics to large volumes of behavioral and transactional data
  • Mine multiple data sets simultaneously to extract outputs
Product development
  • Create data dashboards and visualisation of key metrics to communicate insights throughout the business
  • Assist with the development of sales or client facing audience profiling tools to improve decision-making
  • Collaborate with team members to identify and determine the viability of additional external or internal data sets to acquire and include in analyses
  • Make strategic recommendations on data collection, integration and retention requirements
  • Recommend ongoing improvement to methods, algorithms that lead to discovering new information
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders as well as clients or media agencies to gather client data when required
Insights generation
  • Transform data into audience insights that informs advertisers of optimal advertising solutions
  • Identify and analyse patterns in the volumes of data
  • Work alongside research analysts to develop insights, bringing together the strongest data from multiple resources across the Research and Insights function
  • Present findings of the data visually and verbally to team members and other internal stakeholders
Project management
  • Engage with external data suppliers and project consultants as well as internal stakeholders to build data products
  • Collaborate with data suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure that the information used follows the compliance, access management, and control policies and that all activities meet the certification requirements.
