Q Catering is a premium full service flight caterer, operating five catering and food production centres across Australia. This is done on a large-scale, with microscopic attention to detail so our customers are delivered fresh, wholesome food every day.

Snap Fresh is a world-class frozen food manufacturer which supplies meals to Qantas and other industries, producing up to 13 million meals per year. The end-to-end operation plays a critical role in delivering the best and safest experience for our customers.

Located within Q Catering, the role of Research & Development Manager is responsible for ensuring that a high degree of customer focus and service performance is achieved through maximising raw material and production efficiencies.

You will be responsible for:

• Managing the development process to match business and customer needs
• Fostering innovative food and packaging options
• Managing the development, implementation and monitoring of recipes and Bills of Materials and Recipes for all products
• Managing the R&D Chefs, through innovative meal and meal component development activities, ensuring client requirements are met
• Establishing guidelines and procedures for yield and materials waste management
• Ensuring meals and meal components are developed to make the most cost-effective and efficient use of materials and equipment.
• Compliance with company and legislative requirements with respect to OHS, workers compensation and rehabilitation
• Supervising work activities, ensuring safe working practices are adopted and compliance with OH&S duty of care
• Product specification process in conjunction with clients and SnapFresh Management
• Establishing time-lines for new menu implementation to support clients requirements in conjunction with Supply Chain and Operations
• Reporting performance planning, assessment, identification of training requirements, absenteeism control and staff discipline and development.
• Managing the team and embedding a high-performance culture

You'll have:

• Experience in professional cooking techniques
• Extensive new product development and implementation experience, preferably within a frozen meals or airline meals environment
• Proven client liaison and client relationship management
• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (eg. Food Technology) and/or a commercial Cookery Trade Qualifications,
• Practical, safe and cost-effective formulation and process design.
• Detailed knowledge of processing equipment and techniques.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements
• High motivation with proven problem-solving skills
• Evidence of successful team leadership and development
• Evidence in developing build constructive and effective working relationships in formal and informal networks with internal and external customers and suppliers both locally and internationally
• Proven continuous improvement philosophy
