Reports to: Senior Certification Officer

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Understanding and adhering to the Quality Assurance system as outlined in the Australian Certified Organic Quality Assurance Manual and playing an active role as a team member in ensuring Quality Assurance is adhered to in all aspects relating to this role;
  • Responding to initial certification technical enquiries and providing guidance on the interpretation and application of the organic standard(s);
  • Performing certification procedures to ensure that clients receive prompt, professional service in accordance with the Quality Management System Manual;
  • Undertaking all technical tasks associated with certification and corrective action request closure;
  • Liaising with Certification Review Committee members and clients throughout the Audit Report and Corrective Actions Requests review process;
  • Maintaining a consistent network and flow of communication and information with clients and committee members;
  • Preparing reports for the Certification Manager on an as need basis;
  • Maintaining and updating client files including but not limited to a data base;
  • Performing technical assessments of formulations, recipes, ingredients and labels;
  • Assisting clients and other team members with technical enquiries in general;
  • Maintaining strong and effective lines of communication with clients and colleagues;
  • Having an understanding of ACO's organisational structure and the organic industry in general;
  • Preparing documentation for the actioning of certification-related complaints, breach of standards issues and de-certification;
  • Maintaining working relationships and regulatory parity with other certifying bodies and accreditation bodies to enable, for example, transference of certification of clients and recertification of products to work most effectively for ACO certified clients and prospective clients;
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the relevant standards and international and national regulations which affect procedures pertaining to organic certification.

Prerequisites to appointment

Formal qualifications

  • A degree in food science, food technology, food safety or equivalent industry experience is highly desirable but not essential;
  • Qualifications in an agriculture-related field, food processing and/or food sector highly desirable but not a necessity.

Experience

  • Experience in risk assessment;
  • Experience with Organic Certification Systems highly desirable but not essential;
  • An interest in organic production and familiarity with the organic industry highly desirable;
  • Knowledge and understanding of administration procedures, production systems and auditing procedures.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision;
  • Excellent communication and writing skills;
  • Problem-solving capabilities;
  • Proven time management skills;
  • Excellent attention to detail.
