CLIENT

Unique opportunity to join a Government Body to assist and carry out Risk Assessments of new Industrial Chemicals. Our client currently has the need for a qualified professional to join their team (APS6 level) for an initial two and a half months contract which may be reviewed.

 

ROLE

If you are a PhD or Masters qualified scientist with initiative, a keen eye for detail, who has demonstrated superb writing skills, excellent time management, multi-tasking and communication skills; is a team player and is ready for their next career challenge then keep reading.

The purpose of this position is to undertake scientific searches on chemicals in order to evaluate the information and their impact on human health. You will prepare a range of assessments including complex technical reports.

Applicants must be Australian citizens.

 

In this role the successful applicant will:

  • Work autonomously and manage or participate in a project team to produce high quality, internationally acceptable scientific human health risk assessment reports on industrial chemicals, through application of best practice assessment methodology
  • Under limited supervision produce high quality scientific, technical, regulatory or other policy advice on human health matters relating to the regulation of industrial chemicals
  • Prepare high-quality written material, including policy discussion papers, agenda papers and guidelines, briefs, ministerial correspondence, contracts, communication materials and other documents relevant to the functions of this regulatory body
  • Assist in the implementation of any reforms and/or procedures in relation to the Office as required
  • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Other duties as required

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

Ideally, you will have knowledge and experience in applying scientific principles to hazard, exposure and risk assessment and knowledge of the regulation of chemicals in Australia.

Qualifications and/or experience in chemistry, environmental sciences, regulatory systems or the biomedical sciences, particularly in the areas of toxicology, chemistry or biochemistry will see you short-listed for this exciting opportunity!

To be considered for this role you must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a PhD or Masters in  Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry,  Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Toxicology  or similar

  • Post Graduate experience in Chemistry or Pharmacology, particularly in the areas of Toxicology. 

  • Demonstrated ability to retrieve and analyse scientific information on chemicals from a variety of sources and prepare related reports

  • Knowledge and experience in applying scientific principles to hazard, exposure and risk assessment and knowledge of the regulation of chemicals in Australia are desirable
  • Exceptional organisational skills, including demonstrated capacity to meet tight deadlines and to manage multiple and competing priorities

  • Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to liaise effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders

  • Be adaptable and flexible to deal with a varying work load

  • Great work ethic, reliability and a good eye for detail are essential for this busy role
