Currently the Faculty has vacancies for 2 x Senior Technical Officers to be based within our School of Environmental & Rural Science.

 

About the role

These roles will primarily provide support and specialist advice for both teaching and research in the School of Environmental & Rural Science utilising detailed knowledge and/or experience with analytical equipment across fields such as Molecular (1 position), Spectroscopy (1 position) and ideally with additional skills in Microscopy.  These roles will also be responsible for managing and maintaining specialised technical laboratory facilities and equipment and ensuring that related protocols and operating procedures are regularly reviewed, developed and established as required.

 

Skills & Experience

The successful applicant will have the relevant experience and expertise for the management of a scientific laboratory (particularly in a teaching laboratory) with strong specialist equipment knowledge. You will also need to have an extensive understanding of Work, Health & Safety and risk assessment processes.

This role requires a team player, with the ability to exercise independence, initiative and judgement whilst working under minimal supervision. A high level of interpersonal, oral and written communication skills is a must, enabling you to effectively convey technical information, procedures and regulations to colleagues and students.
