About the Statistics Unit:

The Statistics Unit provides support to researchers from laboratories through to clinics to help design, analyse and publish innovative research. The Unit achieves its mission through statistical consultancy and research collaboration, as well as providing formal and informal training in statistical methods and research skills to clinicians and scientists. 

Role Purpose / Responsibilities:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Biostatistician with a passion for applying their quantitative skills to medical research that can contribute positively to society.

Reporting to the Head of the Unit, and responsible for managing a small group of statisticians, you will use your expert statistical knowledge to collaborate and consult directly with clinicians and scientists from QIMR-B and external contracted organisations, developing statistical resources and methods to facilitate meeting research outcomes, as well as collaborating in research grants and publications

You will help to interpret and present findings, assist the write-up of methods and results for scientific publication and provide professional advice across a broad array of health and medical research disciplines, including public health, genetics, epidemiology, clinical trials, infectious diseases, mental health and laboratory sciences.

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will hold a PhD in statistics or closely related quantitative discipline, in addition to a minimum 5 years' relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience. The highly collaborative nature of our work requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to excel in a team environment.

This role requires you to have advanced knowledge of statistical techniques and procedures applicable to medical and public health research, and have specialist knowledge and experience in at least three of the following areas: 

  • ­ statistical genetics, 
  • ­ epidemiology, 
  • ­ design of experiments, 
  • ­ longitudinal and clustered data analysis, 
  • ­ laboratory based studies, 
  • ­ clinical trials, 
  • ­ multivariate methods, 
  • ­ mathematical statistics, 
  • ­ pharmacometrics, 
  • ­ psychometrics, 
  • ­ health economics, 
  • ­ Bayesian methods, 
  • ­ meta-analysis, 
  • ­ qualitative methods, 
  • ­ statistical method development,
  • ­ or numerically intensive methods.

You will also require experience supervising staff and demonstrated experience in statistical consultancy and collaborative research evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.
