Our client is a biotechnology company located in Melbourne, Australia.

The company currently has an excellent opportunity for a talented and experienced individual to join their executive team as Chief Scientific Officer (CSO).

This role with be based in Melbourne, Australia and will require some national and international travel.

This key management role reports directly to the CEO and has responsibilities for the management of the R&D activities and regulatory submissions to the US FDA, Australian TGA and other regulatory authorities.

The Key Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Project manage the ongoing R&D.
  • Determine the ongoing R&D strategy for the company.
  • Write regulatory submissions to the relevant regulatory authorities.
  • Participate in the development and achievement of the company's vision and goals.
  • Lead a small team of 3-4.
  • Report to the board.
  • Travel will be required – both national and international.

To be considered as a candidate for this role, you will need to possess the following skills and experience:

  • PhD qualification in Microbiology, Pharmacology or other relevant discipline.
  • At least 10 years relevant experience, with a minimum of 5 years senior management experience.
  • Experience in the development and commercialisation of antibiotics.
  • Experience in a start-up environment preferred.
  • Regulatory affairs experience – in particular with FDA and TGA submissions for new drugs.
  • Commercialisation experience with respect to taking new products from development through the production and marketing.
  • Demonstrated international networks with relevant international CROs and research institutes.
  • Excellent leadership, organisation and coordination skills.
  • Experience in teaching or mentoring.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.

In addition, the following skills and experience are not considered essential but would be a bonus:

  • Fluency in spoken and written Mandarin.
  • Knowledge or experience of Chinese Medicine.
