  • Cement, Mortars, Coatings and Environmental Testing
  • Product Development, QC and R&D Activities
  • Supervisory responsibilities with career growth potential

Our client is a 45 year old, vertically integrated construction materials manufacturer with two production sites in Queensland, a sand mining operation, and a wide variety of third party manufacturing partners.

The company focusses on niche segments of the construction, landscaping materials, underground mining support and concrete coatings industries and enjoys market leader status in a number of those areas. It is a keen developer of new products with an in-house R and D team providing a constant stream of new items.

They are currently seeking an experienced industrial chemist to join their Product Development and Testing Services team at their factory site on the southside of Brisbane.

Reporting to the Technical Manager you will be involved in four key activity areas – namely, quality control, environmental compliance, product development and technical sales support.

Although not limited to the below, key responsibilities include:

  • Product and raw material testing, equipment calibration, maintenance of NATA laboratory aspects.
  • Analysing and monitoring water quality results to ensure the company meets its environmental licence commitments. This also includes the management of the functionality and calibration of water treatment equipment on the company site.
  • Advance new product development and provide technical support to the external Sales team on an as needs basis.
  • Co-ordinate the preparation of all information pertaining to the launch of new products including the drafting of Safety Data Sheets, technical data sheets and the like.

We believe the role will appeal to a chemist with 10+ years’ experience in the formulation and testing of cement, construction materials or a background in earth sciences.

Due to the broad nature and reach of the company’s activities, you will get the opportunity to work on a wide range of products and projects in the construction, landscaping and coatings industries. You will also get the opportunity to work closely with – and learn from - one of the construction industry's more experienced Technical Managers.

There is opportunity for career expansion with potential for advancement to department leadership over time.

We anticipate the successful candidate will have a bachelor degree in a chemistry or physical science discipline and have experience with testing and equipment calibration within a QC laboratory environment. You will have strong computer skills and ideally have a background in a constructions materials manufacturing environment.

There is a high degree of hands on work involved so you will need a good balance /interest between theoretical and practical product considerations.

A competitive salary commensurate with experience will be negotiated with the successful candidate. Please forward a covering letter explaining your interest and suitability for the role to Jodie Moseley.
