About the Walter & Eliza Hall Institute
The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research is Australia's oldest medical research institute. Based in the heart of Melbourne's biomedical precinct in Parkville, the Institute has more than 800 researchers who are working to understand, prevent and treat diseases including cancer, infectious diseases and immune disorders. More than 100 national and international clinical trials are underway based on research undertaken at the Institute.
About the position
This role will support the design and implementation of malaria epidemiological field surveys and clinical trials currently being undertaken in collaboration with endemic country partners. The Postdoctoral Scientist in this position will have hands-on opportunities in all facets of study/trial design, protocol preparation, supervision of field study teams and collaboration with numerous groups in Australia, Europe and the United States of America.
Selection Criteria
The successful candidate will possess qualifications and experience in the field of epidemiology, public health and/or infectious diseases. In addition, you will have a strong working knowledge and/or experience in the design of epidemiological and randomised clinical trials, the implementation of population health studies or trials, and data management, epidemiological and statistical data analysis and interpretation and the dissemination of research findings.
Strong communication, collaborative and organisational skills will be required to be successful in this role. The successful candidate must also be willing to work in an international collaborative environment. This will include spending substantial periods of time in malaria endemic countries and/or overseas laboratories).
Previous experience in malaria or other tropical infectious diseases would be highly regarded, but not essential.
Terms of appointment
The position is available for a period of 2 years in the first instance. Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
