Organisational Context
The National Reference Laboratory (NRL) operates as a division of St Vincent’s Institute whose mission is to improve the health of the community by prevention, detection, or better treatment of common diseases. NRL was established as part of the Australian Government’s HIV and AIDS strategy. Contracted today by the Dept Health and licensed by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), NRL undertakes scientific activities that support the accurate diagnosis and management of human communicable diseases, including HIV, HCV and HTLV. With a workforce of over 30 staff, NRL provides unique and specialised services, including pre- and post-market evaluations of serology test kits, quality assurance programs, specialised testing services, consultation, education and training for laboratories in Australia and worldwide.
The role
NRL is currently seeking a full time Quality and Risk Manager to ensure NRL’s operations and services comply with all regulatory requirements for quality accreditation and safety. As a member of NRL’s senior management team, this role is responsible for quality policy, the quality management system, external and internal cycle of quality audits and the overall strategic and operational management of quality. The Quality and Risk Manager also acts as the management representative for staff safety and safe workplace practices. On a day to day basis you will be responsible the supervision of the quality and safety team and for all quality and safety documentation and records. The role holds the primary relationship with TGA, NATA and BSI.
Selection criteria
Applicants should have tertiary qualifications in science with extensive experience in a scientific laboratory environment, ideally within a serology, infectious diseases or manufacturing setting. You will have successfully led quality management frameworks and compliance processes in similar facilities. You will possess a depth of expertise in the application and management of NATA, ISO, ISI, GMP and/or other similar quality standards, as well as risk and safety frameworks.
