We are seeking to appoint a Chemistry Analyst who will be directly responsible for conducting routine sample preparation and food testing. They conduct a wide range of tests using manual, semi-automated and fully automated techniques. If the test is automated they may analyse data and report results.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a safe working environment
  • Ensure all work practices within the area are performed to the relevant standards and procedures
  • Applying the quality system and continuous improvement processes 
  • Using the laboratory application software 
  • Conducting basic troubleshooting 
  • Conducting routine sample preparation and a range of routine tests 
  • Processing and interpreting data 
  • Defining and solving problems of limited complexity where the information available is less obvious, but not contradictory, and can be determined by direct reasoning 
  • Indicative preparation and routine testing skills used at this level may include; filtration, digestion, extraction, preparing standard solutions, using analytical instruments eg UV spectroscopy, routine chromatography (gas, liquid, high pressure, column)
  • Reporting results for batches of automated tests 
  • Understanding the principles of tests conducted 

RELEVANT EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in Instrumental techniques is essential
  • Experience in Labware/LIMS desirable
  • Diploma or Degree in Science or related discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years laboratory experience preferably in pesticide residue testing
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong customer focus
  • Demonstrated problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrable attention to detail
