About the Role 

Due to an internal promotion, a unique opportunity exists for an outstanding and engaging senior lawyer  able to provide strategic and actionable advice to senior management on a broad range of legal matters, including energy, competition and consumer law, as well as the negotiation of significant commercial contracts.

Based in Melbourne, and reporting to the Group Counsel – Customer Markets, New Energy and IS&T this role is offered on a permanent full time basis, where you will partner with our business units as they work to transform AGL into an agile, technology-enabled energy company.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting into the Group Counsel – Customer Markets, New Energy and IS&T, the successful candidate will provide integral legal support to our Customer Markets and IS&T business units.  Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing legal support for Customer Markets’ matters, including sales and marketing campaigns, product development and innovation, digital adoption initiatives and transformation projects
• Developing and maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the evolving regulatory environment and advising on and participating in regulatory developments affecting the AGL’s retail business
• Drafting and negotiating a range of complex commercial contracts, including IT services agreements. Acting for Customer Markets and IS&T on transactional work, litigation, regulatory investigations, and other initiatives
• Providing regular training and guidance to business unit teams to foster a culture of compliance while supporting rapid innovation
• Building relationships with stakeholders from within the business and identifying areas for continuous improvement within the legal team

About You   

We are looking for a team player with a positive attitude and that wants to work for an organisation that is influential in shaping Australia’s energy future. You will also have:

• Admission to practice and relevant experience in private practice and in-house legal roles in areas of law including competition and consumer law, IT, contracts and energy regulation.
• Ability to lead business change in response to changes in the regulatory environment.
• Ability to prioritise across multiple stakeholders
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and with agile teams.
• Ability to represent AGL effectively in important commercial negotiations.
