OUR TEAM

Our Melbourne Planning team is headed up by Phil Bisset, who is recognised as a town planning and property development expert and a qualified town planner. Phil's combination of legal qualifications and town planning experience enables him to work seamlessly with a diverse range of expert consultants and bring a unique perspective on complex planning cases.

As a member of our Planning team you will be working for the Firm's major clients across a range of both public and private projects in the areas of infrastructure, mining and resources, heavy industry, manufacturing, retail, commercial and residential.

YOUR ROLE

Two great opportunities currently exist for a Senior Associate and an Associate to join our Melbourne team. These varied roles will involve front end advisory work on planning matters, including on current major transactions.  At the back end, there will be litigation of planning matters.

In more detail, the roles will include the provision of strategic advice planning scheme amendments, project approvals, strategy for complex infrastructure and urban development projects, compulsory acquisitions and submissions to and participation in Panel hearings and Committees. You will also have the opportunity to advise on a range of issues, including cultural heritage.

On the litigious front you will be involved in the preparation of hearings and have the opportunity to appear in VCAT from time to time. You will also be responsible for briefing and liaising with clients, counsel, consultants and expert witnesses. 

WHAT YOU NEED

As a member of our busy team we expect that you will be able to work both collaboratively and with a degree of autonomy. You will;

  • Have good file and time management skills
  • Enjoy working with the broader Real Estate team to build and sustain existing client relationships.
  • Be a key support for the partners and senior members of the team and be responsible for coordinating inputs into due diligences and general advice pieces undertaken by other practice groups.
  • Collaborate to deliver innovative solutions and ensure the best outcome is achieved for the client
  • Continually contribute to the growth and success of the firm
