ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY
SGS Australia has an exciting opportunity for an experienced in-house counsel looking for a flexible working arrangements to join our team in either Perth or Melbourne.
Reporting to the Managing Director, you will take the lead on all legal matters on behalf of SGS, provide timely and expert advice that protects the commercial interests of SGS Australia.
This is a permanent, part-time position, and the role can be based in either of our Perth or Melbourne offices. Working hours and days will be negotiated with the successful applicant, but the role would require a commitment of around 25-30 per week.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As a General Counsel, you will be required to:
- Take ownership for the timely accurate, effective and cost effective legal services to the Company within area of expertise and authority.
- Seek professional external opinion outside area of expertise as and when appropriate.
- Identifying and managing legal risks in relation to claims, contracts and operations.
- General carriage of all legal matters relevant to SGS Australia.
- Providing legal support and advice on all transaction and contractual issues across divisions and functions (includes client and supply contracts, business/asset acquisitions and disposals, property).
- Handling claims and litigation.
- Provide legal assistance on specific projects as specified by the SGS Group General Counsel from time to time.
- Briefing external counsel where appropriate.
- Ensuring corporate and regulatory compliance
- Setting internal governance policies
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
As the successful candidates, you will have:
- Bachelor of Laws
- Be admitted as a solicitor (unrestricted)
- Have demonstrable in-house counselexperience.
