The Country Fire Authority (CFA) is one of the world's largest, and most highly regarded community based emergency services organisations. We respond to fire and other emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whilst our firefighters are the cornerstone of CFA services, what goes on behind the scenes is just as important in helping to protect lives and property.

The Office of the General Counsel supports the CFA Chair, Board, CEO and the Executive Team.  The department also provides support to the broader organisation on internal legal matters.

The Legal Counsel supports the General Counsel with effective management of CFA's legal function and governance requirements by providing legal interpretation and application of the CFA Act and Regulations, relevant ancillary legislation, commercial negotiations and management of legal risk associated with CFA's activities.

The successful applicant will have:

• Proven experience as In-House Counsel, with responsibility for all aspects of the legal process, ideally in a Government organisation or Agency.
• Admitted as an Australia lawyer and holding a current Victorian practising certificate
• Demonstrated experience in the application of legal principles to issues.
• Well-developed analytical and conceptual skills with the ability to innovatively solve complex problems.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills with ability and credibility at the most senior levels.
• Awareness of Government policies, emerging policy issues and relevant legislation.
