The Role
An opportunity has presented itself within our Brisbane Office for an experienced Float Paralegal to join our team. Using your established skill set you will support a number of our busy Queensland suburban and regional offices in a Paralegal capacity working full time on a permanent basis.  This role will be based in our Brisbane Office, with flexibility to work across our twelve Queensland offices and our Northern Territory when required, supporting a mix of Lawyers, from early career to Principals.

You will travel for short to medium periods of time to any of our offices within Queensland (including North Queensland and the Northern Territory). We have a well-managed float roster to ensure our team always know where they are allocated ahead of time. All travel, accommodation and expenses will be covered whilst you are away from your base office. Our Float Legal team is highly regarded throughout the business and therefore the right cultural fit is paramount to success in the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Claim management including, but not limited to, preparation of notices of claim and other legal documents, preparing of non-standard correspondence, undertaking quantum and liability investigations;
  • File management under the direction and supervision of the Principal;
  • Provide assistance on litigated matters including, but not limited to, drafting court documents, liaising with counsel and gathering evidence and liaising with lay witnesses as required / directed by the Principal; 
  • Attending initial meetings and preparation of initial documents/ forms/ letters (e.g. Costs Agreement/ Disclosure Notice/ Letter of Instruction etc.);
  • Conducting factual research as directed by the Principal.

Key Selection Criteria 

  • Minimum three years’ experience in personal injuries litigation or a similar legal environment;
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of pre Court and Court procedures and documents in Queensland; 
  • Demonstrated empathy when dealing with clients;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (particularly when dealing with clients);
  • Excellent organisational skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task and manage competing high priority tasks;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Understanding of the ethical dimensions of a legal practice;
  • Sound competence in Microsoft Office suite of programmes.
