ABOUT THE ROLE
Virgin Australia's Legal Department is seeking a lawyer for the position of Senior Legal Counsel (Procurement) to join their team in Brisbane's Head Office, reporting to our General Manager, Legal and our Head of Procurement.
Our Legal Department is part of the company’s Legal & Risk Division and is responsible for managing the legal affairs of Virgin Australia by minimising legal risks and providing innovative legal and commercial solutions. The Legal Department performs legal work for the entire Virgin Australia Group including the Virgin Australia domestic and international airlines, the group’s low cost carrier Tigerair Australia and the Velocity Frequent Flyer Program. Virgin Australia is an exciting and dynamic company to work for and is one of the most recognised and trusted brands in Australia.
The current opportunity is for a lawyer with 8+ years post admission experience.
In this role, you will deal with complex legal transactions, identify legal issues, offer the business optimum solutions, and oversee activities of junior lawyers. You will also be accountable for providing timely and accurate legal advice to support not only our Procurement Team, but also our VA Group businesses.
Day to day, you will manage various legal matters in relation to commercial agreements and strategic projects entered into or undertaken by the VA Group. More broadly, you will provide advice in relation procurement and outsourcing, contract, corporate, competition, privacy, spam, intellectual property and IT laws.
This is a fixed term parental leave contract from mid-August 2018 until the end of August 2019.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- A Law degree;
- 8+ years post admission experience as a lawyer;
- Expertise procurement and outsourcing arrangements, and in IT law;
- Strong contract & advice drafting;
- Strong stakeholder engagement, negotiation and management, across all organisational levels;
- Experience in coaching, mentoring, and supervising more junior lawyers; and
- Current Australian practicing certificate.
