The team provides a wide range of services including document review, regulatory claims assessment, due diligence, verification, commercial contracts, specialist funds work, eDiscovery, client technology services and asset management for real estate clients. In Australia, the team is primarily involved in legal document review for the purposes of litigation, arbitration, investigations and due diligence.



Our leading Herbert Smith Freehills Alternative Legal Services (ALT) group is currently seeking a Solicitor to join the Disputes practice on a full-time permanent basis. You will be based at our ALT hub at 600 St Kilda Road, Melbourne.

As a qualified solicitor in our Melbourne ALT business, your key responsibilities will include document review, due diligence and/or other practice area-specific fee-earning work. On specific projects, you will supervise legal analysts in relation to individual matters, ensuring the highest standards of consistent quality.

You will benefit from exceptional training and learning and development opportunities working in a team of highly ambitious and collaborative fee-earners. You will gain exposure to a full range of national and international clients, sectors and industries, and you’ll work with some of the very best legal minds around the world as you partner with our practice teams to deliver cutting-edge ALT services to our clients.

  • Qualified/admitted legal practitioner in Victoria.
  • 2+ years of legal experience, ideally with a minimum 6 months in dispute resolution / litigation
  • Strong foundation legal skills, including drafting, writing, negotiating and project management.
  • Leadership, teamwork and communication skills and well-developed commercial acumen
  • Good understanding of law firm profitability and key drivers for financial efficiency; and ability to help manage costs and budget.
  • Prior experience of supervising more junior solicitors or legal staff is desirable.
