Law Graduate Paralegal or Junior Lawyer 1-2 Years PQE+

Part or Full-time contract to June 2019

Do you want to support the community by educating people about, and advocating for, their consumer and financial rights? Do you want to be part of an award winning team? Do you want to undertake your PLT or Restricted Practice in an environment where you will be valued and be given the chance to learn and grow as a practitioner?

Then Consumer Credit Legal Service (WA) Inc. (CCLSWA) is the place for you!

We are looking for a law graduate paralegal wishing to undertake their PLT, or a restricted practitioner lawyer for a one year contract, on a part-time or full-time basis, to help us achieve our vision of a strong community, empowered by consumer and financial rights. Former volunteers are welcome to apply.

CCLSWA provides 4 key services to the community. As a paralegal or junior lawyer you will have the opportunity to actively take part in, and run our service delivery as follows:

  1. Telephone Advice Line: CCLSWA runs a daily telephone advice line which is open from 9am to 4pm. The advice line is run by our law student and graduate volunteers. As a paralegal or junior lawyer you will be responsible for supervising the volunteers on the advice line, and for guiding and mentoring the volunteers.
  2. Case file work: CCLSWA opens case files for clients where the matter is more complex than a one off telephone advice, and the client is unable to self-advocate. CCLSWA runs matters through the Financial Ombudsman Service and Credit and Investments Ombudsman. You will provide assistance to the more experienced lawyers on their case files and you will run your own case files whilst receiving excellent supervision.
  3. Community Legal Education: CCLSWA presents to other advocates, community groups and young people, through face to face and online learning platforms. Check out our most recent webinar here: https://youtu.be/uKSCyaHBViQ
  4. Law Reform: You can’t turn on the TV these days without seeing a news item about the banks or a consumer matter! We make submissions to current inquiries and reviews of the laws that affect our clients.

When applying, please address the Selection Criteria in no more than three (3) pages, and provide your current résumé and academic transcript.

You can download a copy of the Selection Criteria and Position Description from our website: http://cclswa.org.au/about-us/employment/.

Please email completed applications to [email protected]

Due to limited resources, we will only respond to successful applications.

Applications close at 5PM on Monday 23 July 2018.
