ABOUT THE ROLE
As the in-house Property Lawyer, you will be responsible for negotiating
(and possibly drafting) lease documentation (including face to face negotiations) in connection with the acquisition of new retail stores in Australia together with renewals, variations, terminations and expansions of existing Australian store leases
This is a full-time position based at our Support Office in Banksmeadow.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide support for office leasing, as well as warehouse and distribution spaces
- Prepare due diligence reports and internal ease summary and risk tolerance reports
- Verify information with respect to important notice deadline dates
- Provide guidance on lease interpretation and dispute resolution as the need arises. Review strategies and settlement options with outside counsel and TJX management regarding landlord-tenant disputes and business matters
- Monitor and update the Australian TK Maxx corporate requirements for Australian leases in co-operation with the TJX UK and USA legal team
- Support the TK Maxx Australian Construction Team in connection with store fit outs and remodels
- Coordinate with external lawyers where required
- Provide general support and advice to the TK Maxx Australian Property and Construction team
- As required provide general legal support and advise to other parts of the business at TJX Australia
- Position may have supervision from US and/or UK offices
- Other duties as asigned
REQUIRED SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS
- Australian qualified solicitor (over five years’ law firm experience)
- Experience in leasehold negotiations, preferable acting for retail tenants
- Strong negotiation skills
- Experience in liaising with surveyors and project managers
- Self-starter, able to work on own initiative
- Motivated
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong organisation skills
ABOUT YOU
Above all, we are looking for an experienced Real Estate / Property lawyer, ideally with at least 5 years of law firm experience, who is a confident, professional and assertive negotiator that enjoys working as part of a team.
