You’ve been working in one of the top Banking & Finance teams providing you a strong technical foundation in the comprehensive analysis of all risks in finance deals.

But

The formulaic and prescriptive approach to financing required by the major lenders is wearing thin. You’d rather put your brain power to better use and be recognised for your ability to evaluate risk and actually advise your clients on commercially-focussed structuring, financing and exit mechanisms.

At the Associate level, this would usually require a move in-house or to a small firm, working on smaller financing transactions (bigger fish, smaller pond situation).

So, what you will get here…

• Large-scale ($100M to $1Bn+) financings, working with several industry awarded Melbourne-based Partners (Legal 500, Doyles & Best Lawyers).
• You will provide your own professional opinion advising on what risk you see rather than just providing information to your client, and leaving them to evaluate their risk.
• Working with both borrowers and lenders, you’ll enjoy more client facing time working across a real variety of Corporate finance, Property finance and Project Finance matters, as well as more complex JVs, debt and equity financing and restructuring arrangements. 

The Team:

The team is ridiculously stable with an impressively low turnover rate. They are talented, highly cohesive, professional and genuinely nice people who you will enjoy working with.

As a high-end Associate, this role sits roughly in the middle; providing a level of oversight to Junior Lawyers as well as reporting to and receiving mentorship from the multiple Partners and Special Counsels.

Salary:

This focused approach to what is important in a transaction rather than documenting every single element just to tick a box, allows charge-out rates to be at the highest end of the market (practicality keeps total costs down) – this is reflected in above market-rate salaries across the team.
