The opportunity?

As part of Toll Group’s new growth strategy, we are currently seeking a professional Legal Counsel to provide and manage commercial legal support and advice across the Global Express division. The main focus of the role is to provide commercial legal support and advice consistent with the Toll Way and the Toll Legal Way.

Reporting to Lead Counsel, Global Express Group Legal, the Key accountabilities and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Providing timely legal support and advice to the business and management generally under the guidance and direction of the Lead Counsel including tender responses and contract drafting with particular focus on Toll’s preferred positions.
  • Apply effective risk management techniques and offer proactive advice on possible legal issues.
  • Ensure corporate governance rules and processes are maintained and enforced.
  • Supporting the Lead Counsel in the delivery of Toll’s Global Legal Framework ensuring compliance with Toll Legal Way and assist other Toll Group lawyers where required.
  • Lead the organisation change to drive a positive safety and legal compliance culture at all levels in Toll.
  • Work closely with the relevant business in understanding the requirements when considering legal documents.
  • Maintain current knowledge of alterations in legislation.

The ideal candidate?

As the successful candidate you will be:

Degree qualified in Law, with commerce or finance or post graduate jurisdictionally relevant qualifications well regarded. A requirement to be admitted as a Legal Practitioner, and maintain legal practising certificate in home jurisdiction. Two -three years’ plus experience working in private practice would be well regarded. Experience in the transport, forwarding, logistics and distribution industries and familiarisation with industry concepts such as incoterms, relevant convention coverage and application, regulatory regimes would be desirable.

You will have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to produce high quality executive level presentations. Strong negotiation and influencing skills with experience in having negotiated complex transactions. Ability to foster and maintain good working relationships with key stakeholders.
