The Leader Legal Projects, Services and Litigation provides independent legal direction and advice to the business and provides oversight and guidance to the Legal Services team, ensuring delivery of effective legal advice and the development of team capabilities. The position’s focus is on leading (or overseeing the delivery of) major legal projects, overseeing the delivery of litigation, and practice management for the delivery of Legal Services to the business. The position supports General Counsel in managing TasNetworks’ legal affairs, including engagement of external legal advisers and management of legal advice to the business. The Legal Services group is also accountable for managing complex disputes, managing obligations under right to information, privacy and other relevant public interest legislation, managing wayleaves legislative obligations and managing property law issues. Commercial focus is a key cultural objective, setting the context in which this position operates.
Can you deliver?
To be successful in this role, you will have substantial legal project and/or in-house experience, ideally have worked in a large safety focused business, and be adaptable and embracing for ever-changing situations. You need to possess deep legal practice knowledge (preferably in the energy industry), high level leadership and interpersonal skills and have a real dedication and drive to get the job done. A continual improvement focus and business excellence tilt is essential.
Skills You Need
Education / Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in Law
- Eligibility to hold a Tasmanian legal practising certificate
Knowledge
- A strong understanding of general legal principles and specialist knowledge in discrete areas of TasNetworks’ businesses.
- Experience in providing high level legal advice.
- Ability to work effectively with Board and senior management level.
- A willingness to assist and support the business to leverage the best possible return available from core and non-core business assets and competencies.
- High level strategic, conceptual and analytical skills.
Experience
- Experience as a senior legal practitioner in a commercial environment (in house or private practice).
- Minimum of three years' specialist energy industry experience obtained from an in house legal department or law firm.
- Ability to successfully manage change in a complex, diverse and challenging environment.
- Exceptional organisation and time management abilities to manage several priorities.
- Strong leadership, influencing, communication and interpersonal skills.
