Role Summary

We are looking for a talented Deputy General Counsel to join our high-performing Group General Counsel team. The role will appeal to a senior in-house lawyer looking to move to a dynamic and exciting blue-chip corporate and/or a private practice lawyer looking to make a move in-house.

This leadership position reports to the General Counsel – Wagering & Media and will work closely with the GC – Wagering and Media and other members of the Group General Counsel team to support Tabcorp's Wagering and Media businesses by providing legal advice on a broad range of matters including marketing, corporate and commercial law issues, regulatory and licensing issues, racing industry and other stakeholder relations, mergers and acquisitions and various Wagering and Media projects.  

The successful applicant will be joining at a very exciting time, with the organisation having completed a transformational merger at the end of 2017. 

How you will contribute

This role involves:

• Operating as a senior legal advisor on complex and strategic matters within the Wagering and Media portfolio
• Partnering with executive members and business leaders to devise strategies that enable achievement of commercial objectives
• Providing leadership and growth opportunities to team members
• Building and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders, including suppliers and external legal counsel

Our Ideal Person

We are looking for a talented and commercially-minded senior lawyer who is admitted as a solicitor in NSW, QLD or VIC. Minimum of 8 years PQE obtained in a top-tier or large mid-tier firm or a high performing in-house team.

Critical to this role will be your strong technical legal skills and training, business acumen and ability to work well in a team environment as well as autonomously. You will have strong drafting and negotiation skills and the ability to manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced and dynamic corporate environment.

This role will work closely with the business and will require excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to influence others by developing strong working relationships and delivering excellent commercial solutions to complex legal issues. 

Specific regulatory, corporate and commercial law and/or litigation experience will be well regarded, as will your prior experience in people leadership.
