Women’s Legal Service (WLS) is a leading not for profit community legal centre providing specialised legal and social support services to women experiencing family law, domestic violence, child protection and some sexual assault related matters.

Each year, WLS help thousands of Queensland women to obtain the legal and social support they need whilst raising the community’s awareness of domestic violence and sexual assault, advocating for increased and improved access to services and working with government and community stakeholders on meaningful law reform.

THE OPPORTUNITIES

We currently have a number of opportunities for experienced family and domestic violence lawyers to work in our newly created Domestic Violence Unit (DVU) at Caboolture.

Family and Domestic Violence Lawyer:  4 + years PAE

We are seeking an experienced and senior family and domestic violence lawyer to undertake direct client services including providing advice, casework and representation in a case coordinated approach with the Caboolture DVU staff.  This role will also manage the day to day operations of the Caboolture DVU office.

This role is being offered as a full time, 12 month contract.  Applicants who are able to work substantial part time will also be considered.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Undertaking direct client services, including significant and complex casework and legal representation as required.
  • Working collaboratively with DVU staff to provide case management support to vulnerable women experiencing domestic violence.
  • Ensuring that the provision of the teams’ legal services complies with the laws and regulations governing the legal profession and the mandatory requirements under the National Association of Community Legal Centres Risk Management Guide.
  • Working collaboratively with WLS lawyers, social workers and other staff to facilitate the provision of relevant, holistic support and assistance to clients.
  • Liaising with external agencies and making client referrals where services are more appropriately provided or should be supplemented through accessing another service.
  • Participating in community legal education and law reform activities of WLS as required.

Family and Domestic Violence Advice Lawyer:  2-3 + years PAE

We are seeking an experienced and passionate family and domestic violence lawyer to develop and maintain a new Health Justice Partnership for the Caboolture and Redcliffe Hospitals and or other health care providers in the region. 

This role is being offered as a full time, 12 month contract.  Applicants who are able to work substantial part time will also be considered.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating, developing and driving the Health Justice Partnership (provision of legal advice to DV victims at health care facilities) in and around the Caboolture area.
  • Delivering community legal education at identified health provider sites for health professionals.
  • Undertaking the provision of legal services in accordance with the laws and regulations governing the legal profession and the mandatory requirements under the National Association of Community Legal Centres Risk Management Guide.
  • Ensuring risk assessment and safety considerations are routinely and comprehensively addressed in legal work undertaken when providing advice to clients.
  • Working collaboratively with WLS social workers and other staff to provide legal information, guidance and appropriate non-legal referrals as required.
