About The Role
We are currently looking for an experienced paralegal to join our exciting new Internal Defence Team based in the Melbourne CBD. You will be an independent, confident paralegal who is also able to directly assist with the management of claims made against the Woolworths group.
Your primary focus is to provide support to internal solicitors for paralegal tasks as well as general administration on workers compensation and public liability matters.
Reporting to the Senior Solicitor (Vic) you will assist with the development of the recently commenced Internal Defence Team in Victoria, which is part of the national Internal Defence Team within the Legal Services Group of Woolworths Group Limited. This exciting development is currently 8 lawyers in Victoria, NSW and Qld, with a view to further growth in the future.
This permanent full-time role is suited to a paralegal seeking work-life balance by undertaking a mix of private practice work and administrative duties but with the benefits of an in-house position.
Key Outcomes:

To deliver a fair outcome to Woolworths and its teams while engaging in leading edge insurance practices, including assisting Internal Defence Team solicitors with:

Analysis of liability and quantum, including legal research, as required
-
Arranging medico-legal assessments and preparation of medico-legal briefs as required
-
Drafting of relevant correspondence and settlement documentation
-
Drafting pleadings and other court documents
-
Preparation of matters for trial including briefing Counsel
-
Review of contractual documents and consideration of recovery or contribution from third parties
-
Liaising with key witnesses, undertaking investigations and collating evidence
-
Negotiations and attending settlement conferences and mediations
-

Maintaining relationships with external service providers and claimants’ solicitors

Compliance with insurer procedures and guidelines

Managing team administration such as mail, group email, calendars, and payments

Holiday cover for other administrative position/s within team
About you
You will have:
-
Ability to work autonomously in a small team
-
Google docs/MS Office knowledge
-
5+ years experience paralegal and administration in personal injury / insurance
-
Strong presentation, organisation and communication skills
-
Experience in building and maintaining relationships with relevant stakeholders
-
Demonstrated problem solving and conflict resolution skills
-
Sound knowledge of relevant legislation and case law
