About the role
Mercer Legal Consulting is a boutique legal firm within the Mercer Governance and Legal Consulting Group. You will primarily advise clients, generally superannuation fund trustees and other product providers, and employer sponsors on all aspects of financial services law. 
 
In addition, this role involves a significant amount of advice in the areas of fund governance, risk and compliance and other regulatory requirements. 
 
Responsibilities
  • All aspect of financial services regulatory compliance and licensing issues
  • Reviewing and commenting on outsourced provider agreements including investment management, administration and custodial agreements;  and group life insurance policies 
  • Reviewing superannuation fund disclosure documents for compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Drafting trust deed amendments
  • Assisting with the preparation of ‘due diligence’ procedures for superannuation fund clients
  • Advising on death and TPD benefit disputed claims
  • Advising on Family Law superannuation split notices
  • Work with other professional members of Mercer Governance and Legal Consulting and other Mercer consultants (including actuaries and investment consulting professionals) on client projects
  • Responsibility for monitoring and identifying legislative and regulatory change
Skills and experience
  • Relevant qualifications to practice as a lawyer
  • At least 2 years’ experience in financial services and superannuation (or satisfactory equivalent) in a market facing role
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a sound appreciation of client service ethics and management
