About the business

This Criminal Law Firm is looking for an experienced Legal Secretary to join the team.  Supporting one Criminal Law Solicitor, you will predominately be assisting with Criminal Law matters in the Magistrates Court, County Court and Supreme Court. This firm prides themselves on having a professional, yet fun culture and are looking a candidate with a genuine interest in Criminal Law.

About the role

Your role will often consist of preparing documents, including legal briefs, court subpoenas, spreadsheets and other office-related letters. You will organize and maintain all legal files kept on-site and also maintain electronic-filing databases. 

You may often provide the solicitor with direct assistance, such as helping with research for cases, gathering necessary documents for trials and submitting paperwork to courthouses. Other duties include scheduling client appointments, answering calls, taking notes during legal meetings and maintaining the firm's legal research references.

Skills and experience

Since it is a busy legal firm, you may deal with multiple clients simultaneously, your job will requires the skills to multitask effectively. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are also essential for this job. Computer skills are required, it may assist you if you are familiar with the legal program ActionStep and XERO since many legal documents are created and altered electronically. Good communication skills are also necessary to instruct and address clients. You will need to be familiar with legal terminology and government regulations.

To be successful in the role you must have 4+ years Legal Secretarial experience within a law firm, preferably a criminal law firm.
