Ballarat Lawyers is a boutique law firm servicing clients throughout Victoria in all legal matters. We are currently seeking a family law lawyer to join our busy and professional team.

As a solicitor working primarily in the family law area, you will be involved in providing advice, representation and/or advocacy to those contemplating separation through to Court proceedings and all of the stages in between, including, property settlements, children’s matters, de factor law, divorce, spousal maintenance, child support, Binding Financial Agreements, same sex relationships, domestic violence, Federal Circuit Court of Australia/Family Court of Australia applications, Consent Orders and Legal Aid work. You will also be responsible for supervising the conduct of junior solicitors and paralegals to ensure the provision of high quality, cost-effective and client-focussed legal services. 

Requires skill set includes:

  • highly developed legal skills and extensive experience in court advocacy, which enables provision of advice and representation in highly complex legal matters;
  • demonstrated ability to manage a high volume of cases;
  • extensive familiarity with court procedures and forms;
  • excellent verbal and communication skills;
  • able to provide a high level of customer service;
  • excellent interpersonal skills;
  • proven experience of working in a team;
  • able to work under pressure;
  • able to manage time and prioritise workload;
  • able to problem solve;
  • high attention to detail;
  • friendly and empathetic approach to practicing law; and
  • ability to develop strong relationship with other legal and non-legal service providers.

Requirements include:

  • completion of a law degree from an accredited law school or completion of the Legal Practitioners Admission Board’s Diploma in Law Course;
  • admission as a legal practitioner in Victoria;
  • 2-3 years post admission experience is preferable; and
  • Victoria Legal Aid panel membership will be highly regarded.
