About the Opportunity

This is a key role within our Underwriting Development & Quality team that will see you responsible for conducting quality reviews across all product lines and providing feedback, identifying training and development needs and providing training for our underwriters.

Documenting and optimising processes are another essential element of this role along with UAT (URE and systems) and the continual development of the Capability Framework. 

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Providing quality assurance service in line with TAL’s internal philosophy, standards and practices in order to maintain a profitable risk portfolio

  • Identifying any training needs and trends where internal guidelines and philosophies are not being adhered to.

  • Providing feedback to the Manager, Underwriting Development & Quality in the form of a detailed report.

  • Auditing of the Underwriting Rules Engine (Group and Retail underwriting)

  • Maintaining and creating where necessary documentation for processes and systems

  • Identifying process improvement opportunities and working with Underwriting to implement across the business

  • Continuous Development and implementation of Capability Framework

  • Working with Team Managers to meet Individual Development Needs.

  • Conducting Trainee Programmes, coaching and training of Underwriters

  • Taking an active interest in the market and industry trends and how to turn them into practical actions

  • Appropriately challenging and helping to embed changes that add value to customers and partners

  • Reviewing process and look for ways to for things better and more efficiently

  • Identifying any potential gaps in the URE questioning and rulesets and make recommendations to address

  • Assisting in development and testing of URE changes

  • Proactively participating in activities that build personal skills, knowledge and behaviour via the 70:20:10 model of learning and development.

  • Providing operational and technical support to the Underwriting teams through coaching and mentoring

 

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Over 10 years underwriting experience gained in an environment requiring development of new and innovative approaches

  • Strong medical and financial underwriting skills and qualification

  • Proven ability to work in cross-functional teams

  • Underwriting audit experience (preferred)

  • Training/coaching experience (desirable)

  • Good working knowledge of professional standard and codes

  • An excellent customer service experience

  • Strict attention to detail

  • The ability to work autonomously
