Reporting to the Head of Underwriting, you will provide underwriting expertise and services to our customers supporting top line growth whilst maintaining an underwriting profit in line with the proposed Mass Market Home and Motor budgets.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities

• Manage underwriting referral volumes within agreed SLA’s
• Implement the Mass Market underwriting strategy and deliver profitable growth
• Input in to the annual business plan and budget in consultation with the Head of Underwriting
• Monitoring and reporting against budget with regular reviews, reports, KPI analysis and recommendations
• Ensure all brokers are serviced adequately by planning and monitoring visits and activity in line with objectives
• Working closely with the Head of Mass Market and Head of Underwriting in the acquisition, profitable growth and effective management of new and existing business relationships
• Working with other departments and service providers in AIG to ensure that the Mass Market proposition is clear and cohesive and that Individual Personal Insurance makes the most of every opportunity within the organisation
• Underwrite and negotiate business within authority limits ensuring a market leading service is delivered
• Assist in achieving budgeted expense ratios
• Achieve budgeted loss ratios by risk selection and maintaining underwriting/pricing discipline
• Actively seek and share feedback on competitors pricing, product and underwriting criteria
• Pro-actively manage the underwriting relationships with our brokers driving forward our appetite and hunger for increased levels of new business, increased renewal retention rates and rate strengthening
• Co-ordinate reviews as well as business planning relationship with brokers as appropriate
• Guide the development of sales management and training for brokers and the Individual Personal Insurance Management team

What we are looking for

• Mass Market Personal Lines experience in a sales focused market underwriting environment
• In-depth knowledge of the Australian Mass Market Personal Lines market
• Strong interpersonal skills with experience in sourcing and developing new business relationships
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills combined with the ability to influence people
• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to present a compelling, clear argument
• Strong analytical and reasoning skills
